Choose the career of your dreams; not your Parents'

Image
Its my passion to cure the sick... Do you plan to follow your parents footsteps? Or are you brave enough to pursue your heart? Well I begged to differ. My parents were academicians. But I chose to become a doctor. If you are thinking of choosing a career for yourself and your parents are pressurizing to follow them, here are five reasons you should not. 1. There is a whole world outside IIT and eminent universities like Delhi Universities. These institutes no longer rule the roost or are the sole place to be. 2. Times have changed. There are thousands of career options now. Paths that were non existent in the eighties have become primary choices now. 3.Forcing children to inherit their parents' education is like using a using a Siemens mobile phone (with big antennae) in the era of smartphones. 4. Its time you should #thinkBIG and guide your children too. Break the shackles of society and let your children breath. 5. Universities like LPU shape up your child's ...

Why should women do all the work?

Image
My school had pretty strict rules when it came to uniforms and stuff. Our nails were checked daily to see whether they are trimmed or not. Our uniforms too were inspected from top to bottom whether the shoes are polished, socks not too small (applicable for girls), shirt and trouser well ironed and no stain was visible. Since I studied in Delhi Public School, my uniform was all white.   It was tough maintaining an all white uniform and that too for a playful boy like me. I had two sets of uniforms and had to get my uniform washed every other day. Cleaning whites required special care and attention. I mean just dumping them into the machine did not guarantee a spotless uniform.   It was a Monday. After the morning assembly, our daily ritual of uniform inspection began. My heart was thumping loudly. My parents were very busy that weekend and the usual scrubbing and bleaching of my uniform could not been done. I was praying silently when my class teacher stop...

Launch of Tia Jewels

Gorgeous Tia jewelry...Pay special attention to the Ruby ring and the polki bracelet What comes to your mind when you think of jewellery? For a man, the word comes with its share of scare. I prefer not openly admiring these intricate pieces of art and craftsmanship in order not to get bankrupt. So though I can stop my wife from buying jewellery, I can't deter her from swooning over them! Last Saturday ie yesterday she got the invite for the launch of Tia Jewels. As expected, she was very excited. As it was in Gurgaon, I could not let her go alone. Also how can I ever escape from the duty of being her photographer? We got quite late as we both got stuck at our hospital. Anyways we left at half past four and finally made it there after two hours. The ambiance was awesome. We were welcomed by Neha, who invited us and Shallu Jain, the talented designer of Tia jewels. We were immediately smitten by all the bling around. We learnt that Tia jewels is about premium dia...

Valentines Gift Guide

Image
Hello my readers! Love is in the air! So what are your plans for the sweetest day of the year? I don't have much in mind except for surprising my better half. I am usually a bit frugal when it comes to spending for myself. Before I fell in love, I used to spend money only on my dear didi. I bought gifts only for her and not even for my parents. But as I met my soulmate, I started choosing lovey dovey gifts for her. Since I knew she was the one, I proposed her to get married just a fortnight of knowing her! It was love at first sight for me. This year on 9th February we completed five years of marriage. This week of February is pretty special for us. Our wedding anniversary is followed by Valentine's Day. I always scratch my head to find her the perfect gift for this occasion. Since she has a really overflowing closet, finding the perfect gift for her is quite tough. But this year I found the perfect Valentine Store  from where I picked up these. 1. A beautiful tang...

I was born in the holy city of Varanasi. But I consider myself from Lucknow. There is a substantial reason behind it. My medical education is from Lucknow. Yes I am a medical graduate from the elite King George Medical College of Lucknow. It is one of the five medical colleges of India which was there before India got her independence. The graduation years really shape the kind of person you are when you grow up. Since we are so naive during the school years, college has a great impact on us. In fact college is the first time when we actually venture out independently, without our parents. So its the time we develop our own identities. Lucknow is famous for so many things. Its the city of Nawabs...everything is lavish and royal. From the food habits to architecture to wardrobes and all, everything has a 'Nawabi' flavour to it. During my MBBS years, I had explored the whole of Lucknow city by its length and breadth. From trying different cuisines to hanging out at the most fa...

Music is the soul of life

I feel that everyone would agree with the title of my post. There is hardly anyone in this world who does not love music. However there are two types of music lovers. One (the majority) people who simply love listening to music. Second are the musicians. By being a musician I mean those who learn music. This covers a broad range of people. From professional musicians to tiny tots who have just joined music classes, all these people swear by music. Its unfortunate that we in India don’t give importance to off beat career choices. Academics is a must even if the child is weak or has a flair in extra curricular activities. Thankfully the scenario today is changing when it comes to taking up music and sports as a career. I belonged to old school where academics was must. So I joined coaching classes for cracking the Medical Entrance Examinations as I dreamed of becoming a doctor. However I also belong to a family where cultural education is a must. After all I hail from Varana...
