Helping my wife during this Lockdown

Image
When you treat your other half like a princess, it means you were raised by a queen. I totally believe in gender equality. If women can work and cook, then why can't we men help with household chores? It's lockdown time that means we don't have any househelp. Ariel India has come up with an excellent initiative of #ShareTheLoad. It's high time that we men start helping with the housework. From doing laundry to groceries, cooking to cleaning, there should not be any discrimination in gender. Because chores are chores, irrespective of everything.  I have been brought up in a household where me being the only son and the youngest had been pampered to the hilt. My parents never let me do a single chore. I hadn't even filled a glass of water before going to the hostel. I was lucky that even I was pampered in my hostel. And after I passed my MBBS, I had the privilege of hiring maids to do all the chores. Usually it's said that when a guy lives alone, indep...

Fight Gender Inequality

Sharing the load... I have been brought up like a typical male child. I know, this is 21st century and I hate to admit it; but its the truth. I am the youngest in the house, I have an overtly loving elder sister and my parents are overtly pampering and protective. Therefore I have never been scolded, forget helping my mother with the household chores! My father on the other hand I would say is very progressive. I have always seen him helping my mom in the house...whether be it in the kitchen, garden or anywhere. He always said that work is not gender specific; if my mom can go out to work then why can't my Dad help with the housework? Unfortunately these valuable attributes did not get instilled in me. My parents never forced anything on me because they thought once I would start staying in hostel, I would change. They were wrong. I was sixteen and a half when I joined King George Medical College. And to my sheer luck, the amenities there are unimaginable. The cooks t...

Share The Load

As if Arvind Kejriwal had not caused enough inconvenience. Ariel Matic has come up with another odd even activity. I am supposed to share the load of doing laundry with my wife! Odd days male and even days female! Drats! Those who know me well know how lazy I am. In fact when it comes to household chores, I am the laziest. People who know me only through my or my wife's blog might think that I am the best husband. Well I might be (patting myself) if it comes to taking out my wife for dinner or planning trips. But when it comes to doing anything related to household, I am really not good. Kitchen scares me and other housework makes me giddy. Before my marriage I could make myself a good cup of tea. I cannot survive without tea you know! But after my wife came into my life, I stopped that too. Now I feel that she makes really good tea and I am not satisfied when I make it myself. I am ready to share the load! When I watched the above video, I was really touched. The fat...

Why should women do all the work?

Image
My school had pretty strict rules when it came to uniforms and stuff. Our nails were checked daily to see whether they are trimmed or not. Our uniforms too were inspected from top to bottom whether the shoes are polished, socks not too small (applicable for girls), shirt and trouser well ironed and no stain was visible. Since I studied in Delhi Public School, my uniform was all white.   It was tough maintaining an all white uniform and that too for a playful boy like me. I had two sets of uniforms and had to get my uniform washed every other day. Cleaning whites required special care and attention. I mean just dumping them into the machine did not guarantee a spotless uniform.   It was a Monday. After the morning assembly, our daily ritual of uniform inspection began. My heart was thumping loudly. My parents were very busy that weekend and the usual scrubbing and bleaching of my uniform could not been done. I was praying silently when my class teacher stop...

Household chores for a man

Image
I have been brought up like a typical Indian man. I had been pampered to the hilt during my childhood and teens. I never knew what washing clothes were or how to fill a glass of water. And then the expected happened. I left for my medical college at the age of sixteen and a half. I emerged out of my safety cocoon into the big bad hostel life. But thankfully my college, King George Medical college had the best of food and other services. I never had to wash my clothes or wander in search of good food! But life took a turn when I entered matrimony. Fortunately or unfortunately, I got married to an obsessive girl. Our first six months of marriage were nothing less than an array of fireworks. I, an eternally laid back person took vows to spend my life with a cleanliness and organization freak! I never found the need to keep anything back at its own place or clean up my mess. For me the messier my home, the cozier it is. But my wife did not quite accept my ideology. Hence the clash of...
